In the custom automotive world there are trucks that catch your eye for a moment and are forgotten. Then there are also trucks that always stick out in your mind when you think of a certain make & model. Sometimes these trucks are one in the same just completely made over coining the phrase “A custom truck is never finished”. This holds true for Howard Doyal of Albany, GA, and his 1999 Chevrolet S-10. Already fully shaved & body dropped on 20’s, Howard’s S10 wore it’s custom blue flame over white paint job for a short amount of time before he decided to completely change it again.
Howard’s aggressive looking S-10 is undeniable. This is accomplished partly with a 2003 trailblazer headlight conversion and sectioned grill to match the width of the S-10. To finish off the look, a one off bumper was made to go along with the custom cowl induction hood. Along with its smooth body panels, and bright blue paint scheme, this is one mean looking S-10. To smooth out the body, on the doors the handles and locks were shaved. In the rear a calicombo with LED tail lights was added along with shaving the 3rd brake light, and taillights. A sliding rag top was added to open up the cab. To freshen up the bed, the stake pockets were shaved, and also the entire inside of the bed was reworked with a custom sheet metal bed, and coated in bed liner. Iron cross motorcycle mirrors replaced the factory driver & passenger side mirrors for an added touch.
For the engine treatment Howard wanted to keep the factory 4.3L V-6, and add lots of detail. The vortech motor was given a custom intake, and custom painted to match the body. Chrome and billet dress up items were added to brighten up the motor, and contrast the blue paint. In the engine bay you will find other shiny items like a chrome master cylinder, and diamond plate aluminum fan shroud.
The tilt bed lifts to show the detailed frame & suspension.
We really liked the ostrich wrapped seats and skull switch box!
Howard shows a mostly stock motor can look good with painted and polished goodies.
The interior is just as clean as the exterior. Howard got started with the seats, wrapping them in ostrich skin. To liven up the view for the driver, a custom painted one off aluminum dash was fabricated, with flame S-10 gauges frenched in the center. A B.A.D. Billet steering wheel steers as Howard cruises the streets in his home town. A custom skull fiberglass switch box controls the air suspension system keeping it just mm’s off the ground while cruising. The one off center console houses the audio controls and flows to the back of the cab with black diamond plate aluminum accents. For audio, and Alpine head unit was added a long with an Alpine component speaker set so you can hear clear tunes coming out of the sliding rag top.
Under the tilt bed & front fenders Howard opted for 20″ KMC v2’s wrapped in 255/35/20 tires. The tilt bed rises with the help of universal air bags to show off the detailed frame and suspension in the rear. For the front Universal Air airbags have been combined with A.R.T upper & lower control arms. The rear features Firestone 2600 airbags and a custom lever style chrome plated four link. The system has been plumbed with 1/2 lines that contrast the full custom built, painted & detailed frame which includes a 3.5″ stock floor body drop.
Howard’s Blazin S-10 is undeniable with it’s one off aggressive looking front end, to the smooth body, and solid blue paint scheme. We would like to thank Howard for letting us feature his S-10, and apologize for it taking so long to publish his feature. This feature was actually shot in January of 2006. Be on the lookout for this truck, and its new look and new shoes. By the time you are reading this it will probably be in the final stages of the next version of Howard’s creation.
