The Revival for YSM

Check check, is this thing on? First of all let me introduce myself. I am Nick Keeney, owner founder blah blah blah of kentuckyminis.com Been into minitruckin since I was 14 and always had a thing for photography. So it was a perfect fit for me when rob asked me a couple years ago if I wanted to shoot for YSM. I agreed without hesistation, at the current time my truck was disassembled in 1000 pieces. So I was shooting shows on the regular, when it was time to finally get the truck going. The shooting started to slow down and finally after 4 years I was driving my truck once again. My passion for shooting photography was on the back burner, it eventually almost led me to selling all my equipment. In a last ditch effort me and rob spoke and he asked me if I wanted to take over YSM(updating,shooting,etc). This took me by a huge suprise, I have always loved this site for its originality and the quality. You can see the quality and hard work that this site has to offer all the way down to it’s photos. I have big plans to restore this site to what it once was and known for, great quality show coverage. Thank you all for your great support so far it means everything to me.

Scrapin The Coast 2009

Scrapin The Coast! I think whenever you mention Scrapin The Coast it should be followed with an exclamation mark. This year was my first year at Scrapin The Coast and I will be back again and again. Scrapin The Coast is held in Biloxi, Mississippi, every year. This year it was on June 19th through the 21st. The Mississippi Coast Coliseum where it was held was packed to the gills with cover quality vehicles. It has been announced that more space will be available next year but I wanted to mention, and I’m sure the show promoters will tell you the same thing. If you’re showing make sure you get there early to guarantee a spot on the show grounds. This show can fill up fast!

For awards there are many car, and truck specific classes from minis to full sizes. The coolest award that Scrapin The Coast had, and I haven’t seen this at any other show do this is the Show Promoter Awards. Each show promoter was given an award to give to their vehicle of choice for the weekend. There were 5 of these awards in …CONTINUED BELOW

I would also like to thank Jevon Hebert for displaying his custom Ford Ranger in our booth, drawing a crowd all weekend. Lastly I would like to give a shout out to the hero of the weekend Forrest Warren. Our friend Skinny (Travis) was stranded with a broken transmission seal, and Forrest went all the way to Alabama, to get his dually and tow Skinny’s (Travis’s) truck back to Georgia during the middle of the show Saturday! I can’t wait to be back next year.

Texas Showdown 2009

Texas Showdown did not disappoint! As expected on Saturday, a line to get into the show stretched from the entrance of the Sam Houston Race Park to the main road. It seemed like an endless train of custom cars and trucks. When you see a line like this and people performing their final detailing tricks before getting through the gate, you know you are in for one amazing show. This year’s Texas Showdown took place on June 13-14th, 2009 at the Sam Houston Race Park in Houston Texas.

The weather was great all weekend. To all the sun warriors out there, we hope you were able to keep hydrated and cool in the hot Texas heat.The heat is something to be expected, but battling the sun is definitely worth it. From lifted to lowered, big wheels to big stereos, across the showgrounds were quality customs to please any taste. Personally I’m not a fan of pink, but my favorite ride had to be the classic pink and white two tone vw bug. When you wanted to take a break from the show, the Texas Showdown crew had wide array of activities to keep you entertained. For the audio buff there was a sound off competition by USACI, a burn out competition for you motor heads by RimCO, a large list of vendors for all your aftermarket shopping, and live musical performances. If you missed it this year, I highly advise you to go next year. Texas showdown is just one of those shows you have to experience in person. Texas Summer Showdown 2009

Even though this was an audio event, high quality trucks came out like this Ford F-100, and Chevrolet C-10.

Set up as an audio event, this year’s Texas Summer Showdown went down in the pages of history on June 6th and 7th and it was a major success. Put on by Monty Jones, the owner of performance audio, with a number of sponsors, and people attending the event, how could it not have been? Amazing cars and trucks were on display for every style and taste out there. No matter what you are into, there was something for your eyes and ears to feast

on in Texas once again.

For his first annual show, Monty teamed up with the Turkey Drag Promotional Team and he also teamed up with the Outlandish Trends Car Club to help put on the car show portion of this event. Texas Summer Showdown was very well organized with set rules and regulations. It was held in a no smoking/no drinking facility which helped keep things running …CONTINUED BELOW

Everything from RX-8s to Muscle cars could be found with high end audio systems!

CONTINUED…smoothly and also maintain a healthy environment for everyone. There were many audio and just plain show classes in which to compete where many cover vehicles could be found. Deflated - Shane Terrell’s C-10

Have you ever wanted the truck at the show that drew the most attention out of the crowd? The truck without the crazy graphics, the crazy stereo, or all of the sheet metal modifications that left you guessing what it was in the first place? Well if your name is Shane Terrell from Tyler, TX you’re one of the guys that owns just that. The foundation of Shane’s 1985 Chevrolet C-10’s smooth looks is done in part by the subtle body modifications, all coated by GM factory dark blue.

Although its dark blue paint job may be as slick as a pane of glass, don’t let it’s clean looks fool you. You couldn’t say this ride is an all show no go because it’s got the GO BABY GO! This beauty is pushed down the road by a built 350 Chevrolet Small block with all sorts of go fast goodies. For the foundation of the engine build the block has been punched out 60 over, and topped with Double Hump head cylinder heads. A MSC distributor and 268 Energy Comp Cam was added along with a Street Avenger 670 carburetor to ensure Shane’s C-10 gets plenty of fuel and fire. To top it off and add some beauty on the inside of the engine bay, the top of the engine was dressed up with an Edlebrock Endurashine intake. Other dress up items include billet dipsticks, blue hoses, chrome valve covers, and a polished intake manifold. Shifting of this C-10 is controlled by a TCI automatic transmission with a 3200 stall torque converter.

If you didn’t skim through the previous paragraph, the mechanical modifications may seem like a mouthful but what makes this ride so pretty in the mix of everyone else’s is the slick dark blue paint job, and body modifications to match. To smooth out the rear, the tail lights were shaved a long with the tailgate handle. To finish the look the rear bumper was replaced with a steel roll pan that contains two 12” inch LEDS for anyone left behind to signal that the race is over. To smooth out the cab the fenders, the drip rails were shaved along with the factory door handles, and fender emblems. In the front of Shane’s C-10 the head, and parking lights have been recessed, and a phantom billet grill was added to complete the smooth look in front.

Bed treatment includes a full sprayed on bed liner with a painted to match GM Factory dark blue notch cover. An Optima red top battery is mounted in the rear to pride power for the tunes as a RCI polished aluminum fuel cell stores plenty of fuel to keep Shane’s 350 well fed. Could you tell Shane works at an 18 Wheeler supply shop? They say if you can’t drive a big rig then blow your horn like one! Well we don’t know if anyone says that but Shane’s C-10 keeps people guessing there is a train near by with it’s 5-horn Chrome horn set up! A hard painted to match tonneau cover keeps everything tucked nicely underneath and protected from the elements.

Everyone knows that the set of wheels can make or break a truck no matter how smooth it is. Shane definitely hit a home run with these deep dish wheels for his C-10. In front between the lip and asphalt these wheels are wrapped in 255/35/ZR20 Ecsta STX tires by Kuhmo. In the rear Kuhmo tires can also be found but much wider in the size of 285/30/ZR22 to help plant the power to the pavement.

With all of the work on the motor, and the exterior Shane just couldn’t leave the suspension alone. The lowered stance is done mainly by the adjustable air suspension system but there are other parts used to help get this beast on the ground. To start it off in the front a set of Belltech 2.5” inch drop spindles were added, along with Z-ing the front frame rails just in front of the factory firewall to help the frame meet the pavement. For the air bags of his system Shane chose to run Slam Specialties bags. In the rear a reverse 4-link bag on bar set up is used to keep the rear end in place and provide a smooth ride. To supply air for the system a Viar 480 Chrome Compressor fills the nitrogen tank with fresh air.

As expected the interior received extensive treatment just as the rest of the truck. Tweed was really popular in the early 90s and Shane shows why with his killer custom interior. The door panels have been wrapped in blue and white tweed with raised spear tip style flames for added style. A component speaker set was also added in the doors to compliment the aftermarket head unit to listen to tunes when you want to take a break from the purring Chevrolet 350. The factory bench seat also sports blue and white tweed with embossed flames. Add the aftermarket steering wheel, and polished switch box and you are ready to cruise!

If you ever happen to come through Tyler, TX to go to a show perhaps visit an eighteen wheeler shop to buy a fitting, don’t be surprised to meet Shane’s and his Deflated C-10.

Setting Trends 2009

This year marked the first for The Setting Trends Car Show. I must say, Setting Trends was well thought out by the host Bruce Burge. The idea was to put together a show in Dallas to bring some life back into the Custom Car and Truck scene. Bruce pitched the idea to a lot of friends, and after teaming up with Edward Torres of Damage Inc Car club and the Battle Drag Show Tour, it was set. They set a date, place and got the wheels in motion for this 1 day event.

For the first year, and being a 1day event, Setting Trends had a really good turnout despite the weather. The forecast had been showing rain all weekend, and around Saturday morning 4am it started. The rain didn’t want to let up very much all throughout the day of the show. We tried to stay as dry as possible but, from the video you can tell the lens was catching some water. I have to thank my buddy Jeff Wilson for driving me around the show in my Excursion to shoot the show coverage. A lot of the coverage was actually shot during the down pour. I am not one to risk my equipment but, I will find ways to get you the coverage you deserve.

For the awards, it was a Top 75 pick. Being that there were 80 entries, just about everyone left with an award in hand. They even had a local bar setup for the after party which made for a good time after a long day in the rain.

Never the less the show had a good turn out. I believe pulling in 80entrys, and several different vendors ranging from DJ Murder Hill for the awesome Tunes and Entertainment all evening, KIK Kustom Ink Klothing, Crime Pays Video, Solo Films, Pugz customs, and last but not least Custom For a Cause.

We would like to thank Edward, and Bruce for having us out at the show even though it was the first show I paid to enter to shoot coverage all year HA. Also a big thanks to Allen on the microphone from Custom for a Cause for keeping the laughs going during the rain. I had a great time! See you at the next one. BigRyan

For many years Brandon Leblanc, and Rachel Leblanc have hosted Gator Drag as one of the hottest shows in the south. It brings people from all over the south but mainly from TX, LA, MS, OK, and AR. You can always expect a hell of a time at Gator Drag.

Just a little history about the show: Gator Drag began in Jennings, LA hence where the name “Gator” came from in the name “Gator Drag”. After a few years there, and the city really enjoying writing tickets, Brandon moved it a little ways down the road to Kinder,La. To make this brief, the show finally crossed the state line over in to Texas. The past few years Brandon has held the show in Conroe, TX at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. As a fellow Texan I must say that I’m proud that we have another great show here in the Lone Star State.

This year seemed to have the quality of rides in mind. Everyone brought out there best stuff going for that Gator Drag Belt buckle, Yes I said Belt buckles. Brandon thought it would be a cool idea to give out custom made Gator Drag belt Buckles for awards. To me this is a killer idea because I’ve wanted one of these awards since I first saw them. Thats probably one of the coolest things about Gator Drag I can follow with throughout the years is the cool awards. One year it was alligator heads, and now Belt Buckles! The weather wasn’t to bad except for our Lovely HEAT we have here in Texas. HOT Shows are here finally, so it was a sunburn kind of show. Oh well, might as well get the first one out of the way so I can get less burned the rest of the year. You better bet the cooler was stocked with Beer and Water so I kept myself hydrated and dehydrated all day HA.

The entertainment was brought to us by the PEvents Crew for the Bikini contest, and of course you cant have PEvents without having a game of Fear Factor, and Tug-of-War. The tunes you heard throughout the grounds where played by

Murder Hill DJ service, jams for Mini Truckers by Mini Truckers! For most shows the nightlife is what the crowd comes for, and well there were several things for you do at night. One of the big nighttime events was an after party at “Purple Rain” and we well decided to do a little something else. There’s a nice lit up spot on I45 thats about 4 lanes wide, perfect for a good RAIL Session. I’d have to call this an Aftermath/Texas Khaos drag session with a few others mixed in. The night life came to an end for our crew after running over a razor blade on the shoulder taking pictures/video of the drag session. The flat pretty much ended my night at that point. I didn’t have my spare with me but luckily at about 3am we finally got a spare for the Excursion to get us back to the room. (Big Thanks Jonathon from TK for the spare!!!) Lake Front Tour 2009

The Lake Front Tour would be nothing without a little rain. We started our trip from my little home in Rusk, TX in a straight down pour, but as I told everyone rain or shine I’m going to The Lake Front Tour! I’ve been trying to get out to this show every year since I got into the scene back in 1999. I actually only went one time and it was the year Hurricane Katrina hit. Hurricane Katrina really hurt the community, so I went for the cause, to give something back to hurricane victims that year.
After all the hurricanes and getting the Southern Louisiana back up on their feet it seems Roger Miller and his Club Midnight Fantasies have come in full force to bring back what once was, and I would think now is again the biggest show in Southern Louisiana. For a day that looked like there was no way in the world there was going to be killer rides at the show it was for sure to change fast. We pulled into the show Saturday to be amazed at the high quality rides covering the show grounds, and glowing like they had been hiding in enclosed trailers all night! Clubs & show goers came out in full force lining up on the show grounds that Saturday in Lake Charles. The final tally was 420 entries for the weekend and vendors were setup ready to roll. We were excited about having an inside booth there that would keep us out the weather in case of any FLASH FLOODING, Tornado’s or if the Lake Decided to break its banks and flood Lake Charles. At least we could climb to the roof!
Everything was great all throughout the day until around 3:30 or 4:00pm. WOW, the sky poured the whole lake on top of Lake Charles I think. It didn’t let up at all for several hours. It was perfect timing for Roger, because he took it to his advantage to put on the top of the line bikini contest. The bikini contest was a great way to bring everyone indoors from the rain to enjoy a great show.
For our nightlife event well, it probably would be a little more than what we would call, “The Normal”, nightlife for a car show. John Salas, one of the founding members of the Vertically Challenged Car Club Houston, Texas had an invite to a wedding that was going on that weekend in Lake Charles. I’m not sure of the full details, but either the case may be make sure you pick

up the next Twisted Inc. video to see the footage from the WEDDING CRASHER’s. That’s all I will say about that.
Sunday was just as great as the day before. We look forward to next year and hope to see everyone out there again. Lake Front Tour 2009

The car club TEXAS KHAOS, for putting on the first year of Kill Switch in Conroe, TX - they definitely had their act together! We arrived Friday evening April 10, 2009 to be greeted in our hotel parking lot by Darryl Tracey, and Dennis the Menace. They were already geared up for a Friday night PARTA!! You know, we are always down for that. Once we had settled in at the room and got everything setup, we went and grabbed the cooler to ice the beer down. After that point it was on! I would love to make a whole list of the names of people we got to hang out with that night but there were too many to list. The Friday night pre-show party was a great way to start off the weekend.
We rolled into the show around 9am that Saturday morning April 11th to set everything up. When we got there the grounds where covered, and I mean covered with nothing but feature worthy rides from one end of the grounds to another. Once we got setup at the tent, and put the banner up it was time to roll out and hit the show hard!
We were proud to see the Texas Khaos guys had the food vendors serving Texmex style food all day. Even though I’m not much of a fan for my hot stuff, I still loved the Texmex theme. Being that most of the guys of Texas Khaos are from our neighboring country to the south, I doubt I could handle their version of spicy.
West Texas Shakedown was all about the party during the show. They put on the truck limbo contest, and if you have never seen one of these before make sure you check out the video coverage. We even put a camera on one of the limbo contestant rides to give you a first person view! These guys know how to get down. We are geared up for their event in a few months.

We can’t wait to see what Texas Khaos has planned for Kill Switch 2010, we had a great time!

For some of the show attendees out there who go to a show for a trophy, or worry about which class you they’re in and spend the whole day looking for the trucks that are in your class. Tex Mex is probably not the show for you. For one thing, the place was so huge you’d never find the trucks that are in your class. On top of that, this was one of those shows you show up drunk and you leave recovering. From the time you get there the good time starts, and on Sunday when you leave you’re still partying. We pulled in Friday night and setup camp. Once we got the tents set up, it was time to cook some food on the grill and bring out the beers. Already the cruise was rolling, and the party had begun. It wasn’t just us. It was EVERY CAMP site out there. It felt like if you where sober you probably shouldn’t have even come.
When we pulled in to the show around 5:30 or 6:00pm Friday evening it felt like we were already late. We went through the entrance to be greeted by all the guys at the gate, then we rolled through the site looking for a place to set up camp. At about the time I was saying “Hmm this looks like a good spot, not a bad turnout”, we toped a hill, and all you saw was LAIDOUT rides, chrome, billet, and custom paint jobs. My mouth just about hit the floor. I have been to a lot of shows in the last 10 years I’ve been doing this, but I have never seen such a spread out, and such a large show ever! It was amazing how many rides where there from all across the country. No Regrets California, Mexico, and even Japan was there, and if they come all the way from JAPAN, you know some things going down in little Old Texas!
Saturday morning I woke up to a roaring truck around 4am, revving his motor as much as he could, but I rolled back over and woke up around 9:00am. The coverage started from there, the only problem was my camera. I was having the worst luck this weekend. The communicator in my lens wasn’t working at all, so that’s why I feel like my coverage is a little short. As many things that were there, I should have had

at least 2000 pictures. At least I was able to offer something. Well as far as I was saying about classes and judging they did a TOP 100 choice, which was awesome. The show had one really big class. Yet the judges were stopping by, checking out all our rides. I felt sorry for them to have to cover the whole grounds like that, but once night fell Saturday night, it was on once again. I’d love to be able to tell you about all the events that happened that night, but honestly it’s all a bit blurry HA. I know the wet t-shirt contest turned into a HOW NAKED COULD you get contest, which I didn’t hear one complaint about. From that point I remember a whole lot of beer drinking, and a lot of Keg Stands. We finally went to sleep around 6:00am because I remember seeing the light from the sun, and I said its time to lay it down. That’s about it, I’d have to give props to Mitch Rall, Severed Ties Texas, and the Rest of the club for putting on one HELL of an event. Also I would like to thank Twisted Inc DVD for the party, pretty much all night debuting there video. They definitely turned the heat on the party, and everyone else that made the weekend had a hell of a time.
